What? Boomers had no idea what 1337 was when we used it

What age range were baby boomers in 1980?

16-34

8008135 is still goated

We use to write this on our Casio calculators and pass around in class 😆

They were the young people creating this culture then.

I’d say Gen Xers not boomers. Boomers were already too old for hacker culture

I think that boomers would likely the generation that coined the term. The Gen X were being born in the 80s, most still in elementary or middle school. How could they possibly be hacking on the internet in the 80s? Wouldn’t most Gen Xs get their hands on a computer by the 90s?

1337 was coined when BBS was a thing.

I'm genX and had to look it up, but I know what it is now.

Yeah you’re right

Leetspeak is like 50 years old, good chance some boomers were involved in it's creation 👀

Search yielded early 80s

So 46 years.

So Boomers were not likely responsible for it. Probably Gen X

Boomers were 16-34 at that time. Undoubtedly since of them were involved. Gen X was 0-15 at that point. Considering this was before the Internet even existed, and computers were not available in most households, it makes sense and older cohort would have access to them, at University and work settings.

I imagine by the time hacker culture fully blossomed the gen xers were already in their late teens - a perfect age (especially at that time) for leet speak

Probably a mix of both.

1970s boomer hacker culture existed I think 😂

What's that?

A toggle in settings which will change all the text on amethyst (not user generated content) to leetspeak. Facebook had it in earlier days.

Goddamnit.

Gen X, thank you very much.

Boomer no, cringe yes and it always was so just embrace it
