Yes I have recently heard another talking head mention pardon. Just as you say StillIRise1963, they start early and see our reactions to bullshit. Then start testing alternative ways to phrase and what sticks.

If a pardon happens, it would open the door for something even worse. Imagine Trumpelstiltskin with brains and self control.
