Enterprising China exporter sells car-replacing rural electric pedicabs to US, bemoans profit levels same as selling clothes

==========

Luo Hao, a 25-year-old Chinese exporter, has gained attention for selling electric pedicabs, known as 'san beng zi', to customers in the United States. The small vehicles can carry cargoes weighing a tonne or several people on an uncovered trailer and can travel tens of kilometers on a full charge. Luo was inspired to start the business after seeing videos of a Chinese woman in the US who had bought a pedicab for her father-in-law as a Christmas gift. The pedicabs became a sensation in their town, leading Luo and a friend to move to the US and set up a business selling the vehicles. They have sold dozens of pedicabs since March, with revenue reaching $10,000 on the first day of sales. However, Luo notes that profits are not as high as expected and are on par with selling clothes in China. He advises others interested in the industry to have experience and resources before starting a similar business.
