I wasn't eating poorly before, lots of whole foods and healthy vegetables and so on, but my health has still tangibly improved with vitamin supplements

makes me wonder if it's even possible to avoid minor deficiencies without supplements these days, if you're not growing your own food

Could be that modern foods, whether whole foods, organic, or not, are less nutritious than a century ago.
