I made the mistake of buying an S9K. Can't flash a custom OS on it and it doesn't like any other fans than the stock fans. I ended up chucking it in a dumpster when I moved. $50 loss, no biggie, but now I know better.

Is that a special version of S9 ? More powerful?
Yeah there were a very generations of the S9. The K version is a bit more powerful, at 14.5 THs, but it's locked so you can say install braiinsOS on it, and it freaks out if the fan RPM is not what it expects it to be, so you have to run the loud AF stock fans on it. Fucker is like 80dB so you can't tolerate it running in your bedroom or living room. I could hear it running outside my apartment at the bottom of the stairwell when it was all the way back in my bedroom.
Custom OS is key. And being able to change the fans too. Stock fans are absolutely terrible. Too much noise
These are really kick ass but they cost 10-20 times as much as you'd pay for an S9.
Somebody solo mined a block with one just a few days ago.
not open source
and last time I looked into it they only accepted sats through Coinbase

10T for 1.2K USD WOW
Ah itβs a computer for a node too. But still. Steep
Yeah pretty spendy but totally plug and play and it's 10THs for a fraction of the wattage that an S9 will pull.
Ya. This is the direction plug and play takes. Way more expensive. Thereβs always a downside I guess
Being tech savvy helps a lot!
I have a couple of CompacFs laying around but I couldn't get the driver to work anymore after 8 upgraded to Windows 11. I ought to go back to Linux now that I'm not using any Windows only apps on my PC.
The USB sticks. Nice! Do they generate a lot of heat?
Barely any at all. If you overclock them you'll wanna put a fan on them. I have a little USB powered fan. You can overclock them 300% and they're still stable as long as you have a little fan blowing on the heat sink.
