Decentralized music just means the artist maintains control of their RSS feed so they never lose custody of their art and listeners can support them directly (if they so choose). You can find free hosting for your XML file if needed and it only takes a few minutes to build using tools like MusicSideProject.com

But then, that RSS feed can be shared in MANY places (easiest of all the new podcast apps via the Podcast Index) and tracks can be shared to ANY mainstream platform the artist desires. Then when censorship strikes or rugs get pulled, the artist still truly owns their art and fans have been able to send them value directly the whole time.

The first proof of work for DeMu was the Stay Awhile album from Able and The Wolf, published Christmas Eve of 2021, so the concept is only 4 years old. But the artists in those value splits are STILL receiving value without issues (me included.) Live concerts are decentralized now too since the first Satellite Skirmish paved the way! The space has been growing steadily and will continue to do so.

I'm always happy to fight the FUD for anyone interested in learning. 💜

That's a good explainer for musicians reading this. I'm not musician and I've listened to and supported artists during the live skirmishes since the beginning.

To clarify my point, I'll play tracks from all sources, regardless if it's demu or not. If I personally like the music & as long as it isn't AI, I'll play it to help give exposure to the artists in whatever small way I can, either as an outro feature song on the podcast or if I do a music edition episode.

I was reacting to your "decentralizing into oblivion and poverty" remark as I've only heard positive things about the DeMu experience from artists, and one of the first comments they make is how much MORE value they receive from this corner of the internet versus being on major platforms.

That's great to hear. As long as the feedback is positive & value is received, I'm all for using all avenues available the artists. It's all good 💚

You should try Spotify, they have a huge library and you can support the artists by listening to ads or just paying for a monthly subscription.
