Is it a reliable and trustworthy company? They could give all information to a government if they were forced to. Or is it protected somehow?

Now owned by or merged with Proton. Don't know if simplelogin is up to protons level yet but I'm sure they are headed that way.

You could also self host their server stack as it is open source. Just need a cheap vps and you are good.
