I have been trying to pay for purchases with a $100 bill for about 5 days now. Every single time I try I've been told they can't make change. Not trying to make small purchases necessarily either. Each purchase has been for at least $20 and I have been told I would have to use my card for every one of them.

Are they slowly removing cash from the system to pave way for a CBDC?

Or am I just being paranoid?

I have been known to be paranoid.

U.S. I've never had this much trouble paying for stuff with a $100 bill if the purchase was over $20. Cashiers are telling me they just don't have the cash on hand to give me change.

Depending on what city I know some people don’t like the risk of having large amounts of cash in their business… robberies, employee theft.
