Last year at this time, my company had 4 employees.

We now have 31.

And there’s ONE specific position that unlocked an exponential amount of growth for us:

An Executive Assistant.

(I didn’t even know what this was a year ago.)

I recommend hiring this role from the Philippines (onlinejobs.ph is what we use.)

Don’t cut corners with budget. Pay the premium and get an elite assistant. Should run you $2-3k per month.

Look for previous experience.

They need to be able to onboard themselves. Their #1 goal is to amplify your time.

Your interview process should do 3 things:

1. Give them enough context of your day to day, tasks, company goals (so they can do steps 2 and 3)

2. Have them create their own onboarding plan and 90 day roadmap.

3. Have them prove to you that they will save you +20 hours per week.

Thank me later.

Useful. Gracias.

Very interesting; thanks for this! What’s the workflow like? Ie, how much synchronous comms do you do with the person in this position?

Daily 30 minute standup meetings, then a decent amount of “closing the loop” messages in slack

I used to work at Microsoft teams org and absolutely hated it. Felt like it slowed down productivity so much and was extremely distracting.

What are you referring to specifically? Having an executive assistant? Daily 30 minute check ins with assistant?

“Closing the loop” messages in Slack (or in my case Teams)

We’d spend time trying to figure out what was and wasn’t done on a project instead of using the time to actually finish the list.

I don’t have a solution, it’s just a very annoying problem.
