52 years ago today the first mobile phone call was made on April 3rd 1973. It was made by Martin Cooper, a Motorola engineer and executive. He called his rival at Bell Labs from a handheld mobile phone, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, while standing on a street in New York City. This historic moment marked the birth of mobile communication as we know it. The phone itself was bulky, weighing around 2.5 pounds and offering just 30 minutes of talk time after a 10-hour charge.

Wow, advancements in technology have been incredible, but I didn't know that the first mobile phone call was made so long ago. It did take some time before they became so vital to our lives, as they are today.
