i toured the factory where they are made and met the original founder. i used to talk to carl pei a lot.

i would never use oneplus because of their horrible customer support when they first launched.

There's still never been a better feeling phone than the OG One though. That back plate was amazing! 😍

That's awesome man. I was really impressed with their QC when Linus walked through their facility. I love android. We have similar stories I believe but I'm a little younger so I was still beholden to Verizon androids until I was old enough to move out and get my own plans. I didn't get on the OnePlus train until OP5 . But every upgrade since I've tried competitors and ended up going to the next OnePlus after a few days. There was just no comparison for price to performance ratio.

For funsies let's see if I can remember my lineage:

Droid X

OG Droid

Droid 2 Global

Droid 2

HTC Evo 4G

HTC droid Incredible

Droid RAZR

RAZR M

Galaxy Nexus

Moto X 2013

Moto X (2nd gen)

OnePlus 5

OnePlus 7 Pro

OnePlus 9 (current)

I got my wife to switch when we started dating from her iPhone 4 and she never looked back. She uses a pixel 4 now.

I also tried Sony's offerings and Asus Zen line but retured them for the OP after a week of use. If I was going to get anything else it would be a pixel but I love my inscreen fingerprint reader and competition is no where close to the speed. I hate facial unlock. Just my preference. I did a LOT of custom roms before I got my Moto Xs and since then I've never felt the need to tinker since phones have gotten so much better and OP is fairly close to stock android.

If anyone has questions, you can send them my way too. I have a lot of experience in this field. I also did device repair as a career for 5 years so I know the hardware really well too. (It's why I used Motos so long, they have top tier engineers)
