Do it. Super fun, easy to set up, and feels great to contribute to decentralizing the mining effort.

Are you wanting to lottery mine or pool mine?
The difference is, if you lottery mine you would get the entire block reward in the infinitesimally small chance that your Bitaxe found a block, whereas if you pool mine you would share the block reward for any block found by the pool on the basis of how much hashrate you contributed to the effort. It's the choice between likely never having a payout at all, but it would be life-changing if you did, vs having regular but very small payouts.
Its for more just for learning more about the process/about bitcoin in general. I was impulsive and got two anyways, one as a lottery ticket and the other I’m going to join a pool.
Do you also run a node? If so, I would highly recomment nostr:nprofile1qqsq9k04vahllseell55m74n3047y88pzlr0z5yany32st29fapqmgsppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qgawaehxw309ahx7um5wghxy6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skctc87ckyu for your pool mining BitAxe, since you can run DATUM on your node to construct your own block templates based on the transactions in your own mempool. Additionally, they do lightning payouts, so you don't have to worry about reaching a payout threshold that could take years to achieve.
I have not done lottery mining, but you will still need to point your miner at a pool or use your own node. The Botaxe can't create block templates or broadcast any found block to the network itself. It needs to have a Bitcoin full-node it is connecting to for that, either your own or a pool's. There are lottery mining pools that exist for this purpose, allowing you to get block templates from them and broadcast any found block through them, but you get the full block reward (minus their fee) rather than sharing it with other miners in the pool.
