I see it differently. The Matrix isn’t just the state... it’s our perception of reality itself.

It’s not some external force controlling us, but rather the internal framework through which we interpret the world.

That said, external forces... like the state, media, culture... can absolutely influence how that framework is built.

But the Matrix is not out there... it’s in here.

Definitely another way to look at it. But what I was getting at is like the Matrix, the state only exists by keeping people dumb and a sleep while draining everything possible from people in order to satisfy its ever growing desire for more and more control. And most people will turn on you at the drop of a hat should you poke at whatever their Sacred Cow is.
