My guess is it’s a Nostr dev ā€œTestingā€ again

I've been here for two and a half years. Whether it's the DM doxxing bots, the IP bots, or the reply bots... just use Wine or a similar filtered relay. It's not the devs trying to make Nostr more annoying (and privacy-invasive) for everyone—it's script kiddies.

True but I seem to remeber a couple of devs running stuff like this and later admitting to to it. It’s at least someone who really knows their way around Nostr.

However, it’s not that hard to build scripts like this, anyone can these days with ai

Interesting. I don't recall anyone but a self-proclaimed white hat hacker owning up to the IP bot. They said they did it to increase privacy awareness, but I don't recall them saying they were a Nostr dev. Do you remember who it was you're thinking about? I'm genuinely curious.

I don’t remember who it was now, but I think it’s weird how they appear out of nowhere run for a week or two then they disappear. Like someone is experimenting then turning it off.

Gotcha. It is my understanding that they get filtered out and then lose motivation. Either way, script kiddies do their thing. In the end, it makes #Nostr more resilient, whether that was their intention or not.

As a Nostr dev I can attest … I don’t have the time.

I did come up with a fun bot idea (BuzzKill : automatically zaps the max reward for any BuzzBott thread) and know how to implement… but honestly have so many more important projects to tackle.

Maybe once I have a team … we’ll do some Nostr stress testing. šŸ¤”
