Germany 🇩🇪: In a call to defend democracy, authorities and media outlets are considering the possibility of banning the right-wing “AFD” party in Germany.

“AFD” currently ranks second in the polls with 21%.

The magazine “Der Spiegel” published that:

“The AfD has become increasingly radicalized. It is time to defend democracy with better weapons”.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has declared that a ban should be considered if the AfD is categorized as a group of "proven right-wing extremists" by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

And the president of the German republic, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said in a speech to the country's domestic intelligence agency that "we all have it in our hands to put those who despise our democracy in their place."

The Tagesspiegel newspaper also talks about banning the party.
