#asknostr : Re: relays for #newbs

I understand when it comes to #Nostr relays there will always be an element of quality over quantity. That being said is there any recommendations for those #NewToNostr regarding how many relays one should add to their client (on average) and are there any specific relays that you would recommend to everyone? Also, have you found any interesting niche topic relays? Is there anything people should be aware of before they add some new wss:// address?

I use nostr21.com (paid) and relay.onlynostr.club which is free but you have to register as my inbox/outbox/dm relays. Many, but not all nostr clients support the inbox/outbox model. Don't be surprised if your nostr client doesn't have those settings.

I just use the default relay list for the app relays.

I'm using Amethyst client.

That registration took less than a minute and would do a decent job at stopping bots in such large numbers. Thank you very much ♡♡♡

For the onlynostr one you have to use their nip05 address to use it. See how my nip05 is mananguri@onlynostr.club. If I remove that from my profile, the relay will reject me.

I go with this method for deciding how many relays I will use:

Outbox/Write Realys:

- 1 relay I control that others can access to read from.

- 1 major public relay.

- 1 relay that is for a group I belong to that only those in the group can post to.

Inbox/Read Relays:

- 1 relay I control that others can post to, but only if they are tagging me.

- 1 web-of-trust relay

- 1 major public relay that I can remove if I start getting a lot of spam replies

Since there may be a bit of overlap, that's only really 4 or 5 relays needed.

On top of these, various clients may allow you to set other types of relays to fill in some gaps, but the above should serve you pretty well on its own.
