I was so fortunate as a kid to have a creek running through our property that was just teeming with these “mud bugs”. I could catch 50 plus in an outing by quickly thrusting a hand into the water and quickly tossing them into a 5 gallon pail next to me. I’d bring them back to the house and feed half a dozen to our raccoon and freeze the rest for the next big feed. And there were so many frogs it was super easy to get a good side of frog legs going too.

One of my favourite places to visit is Houston/Galveston area when fresh crawfish are in huge supply. I’ve been down there for 10-14 days at a time and eaten crawfish etouffé every single day and sometimes twice a day lol. Cooked shelled crawfish in dirty rice and brown gravy. Smack yo mama. My “last meal dish” for sure.
