Well, it's good to be aware and considerate of different cultural backgrounds, customs and sensitivities. Even if a word is not necessarily meant as an insult, some people can take offense if they perceive it to be derogatory or condescending towards certain groups. That's why words should always be used with awareness of the context, impact and potential consequences they may have on others.
