I like GIFs for small reactions, even if it's low quality. Video is more suitable for long formats IMO. Also it adds a friction point if you have to click on play to watch it.
Which client are you on? It autoplays in Damus but not on Nostur. Those are the two I’ve looked at so far

Yakihonne at the moment, no auto play option. On other clients such as Amethyst you need to change the settings.
