Ok got it, so the real cost of the force close is the transaction fee (probably not a lot) but it makes you a bad neighbor if your peer is the one who opened the channel you just force closed, making them eat the fee?

Depends why you force closed as to whether you’re a “bad neighbor.” If they’re unreliable and unreachable and the channel goes offline a lot, then it puts your funds at greater risk if you don’t close it.
Ok yeah, that makes sense. I’ve force closed on two occasions in the past: once for a peer that was offline for 3 weeks; once when my node crashed and I restored from a channel backup.
