Part of the preparation to strike fear into its "enemy" was to intimidate the enemy with that lowered head and that glower out of the tops of the eyes.

From boyhood forward, I've watched potentially violent men posture, all around me — behavior that's perfectly socially acceptable, because "This Is Just How Men Are." I've watched them walk around, neck drawn in, forehead lowered, eyes glowering upwards — because they think this behavior is intimidating.

It's "masculine."

It's macho.

It's "How Men Are" and "How Men Are Supposed to Be."
