I can't put my finder on the specific work gathering, but somewhere along the line I quit bringing anything for the work potluck, I quit going to the work Christmas party, I quit going to anything not absolutely mandatory to continue working at whatever hospital I was at. I quit giving a rats ass about the culture of the place where I got my check. I just went to work, did my job as well as I could, and stayed as far away from those who talked about their "work family" as possible.

Turns out, that was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
