Follow packs simply reinforce the popularity contest. They do not help people discover new users. Bluesky where this feature originated has the same problem. New users show up and get little to no traction unless they had a presence on X.

That's true, but it's still a powerful tool to generate movement/engagement to Nostr and give those accustomed to the prevailing system room to adapt. I don't fit into any particular category either, and that's fine for me. My interests are diverse.
