Ok, this is a bit of a noob question. Lemme explain...

If my lightning channel starts off like this:

10000 <------> 10000

Then, looks like this:

10000 <------> 40000

Then, I rebalance to this:

20000 <------> 20000

Does that mean, in theory, I can crawl my channel capacity to be increasingly bigger channels, instead of just opening a large channel?

Or, does it mean that step 2 can never happen, because step one is limited by its inbound value?

With splicing, yes it's possible

Step 2 can’t happen. You can not revive anymore than your inbound liquidity

So if I have a store, I can only accept up to the limit of my channel and can only accept more if I multiple channels open? Without splicing.

You can only receive the equal of inbound liquidity. If Chanel size is 1 million but only 500k on inbound then that is the limit.
