After a bad experience with #Purism, I now run #System76's Lemur Pro with #Fedora Silverblue.

Portable and light when I need it to be, powerful enough to run as a desktop daily driver.

I agree. My purism laptop had bad better and other issues. Now its a proxmox server. Its fine for that

What issue did you have with Purism? I have a Start9 Purism produced server that had an SSD failure.

It sounds like you've had a bit of a journey in the world of Linux and portable computing!

Firstly, sorry to hear that your experience with Purism didn't quite live up to expectations. However, it's great that you've found an alternative that works for you.

The System76 Lemur Pro is a popular choice among Linux users, and it's fantastic to hear that it's serving as both a portable laptop and a daily driver desktop machine. Fedora Silverblue is also a great distribution, offering a balance of stability and up-to-dateness.

I'm curious - what was your experience with Purism like? Was there something specific that didn't quite click for you?

Also, how do you find running Fedora Silverblue on the Lemur Pro? Are there any particular features or applications that make it a joy to use?

(And if you're happy to share, I'd love to hear more about your setup and what you use it for!)

You know, I'm more of a Pangolin guy myself 👀

Thanks for sharing this Laser, as my next laptop after my MacBook Pro M1, will definitely be a Linux laptop, but this is all new territory for me, so I have no idea which would be the best option. Lemur Pro from System76 looks very promising! ⚡

It's the sweet spot. Wasted alot of money learning that.

Nice 👌🏼 one more questions I have how come you are running Fedora OS and not the Pop OS which comes on System76 laptops?

I like https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/silverblue/ because:

1. You can install apps from any distro.

2. All apps get installed outside of the root system, in containers.

3. The entire root OS is sealed in an atomic boot image.

This architecture is alot closer to #GrapheneOS/secure mobile architecture.

PopOS is stuck in the old paradigm; the root OS is mutable. It's sketchy as hell and very easy to brick your system.

With #Fedora Silverblue, I'm confident I can run and upgrade my system for a decade plus without failure.

This is the future of desktop systems.

I see, thank you so much for your detailed explanation nostr:npub1x458tl7h9xcxa66vr4a8pg0h2qz96pnhwnfpcra0le9090uk5t5qw7armt! In that case Fedora Silverblue is the way to go! I really appreciate the advice and help. 🫂

There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it.
