Why do you want your parents to run their own node?

There are plenty of people that use tooter and faceplant and never even download their tweets for backup.

There are plenty of people that own bitcoin and will never run their own node.

There are people that rely on the government to 'protect' them with guns and will never touch a gun in their lives.

There are people that rely on 'free speech' only to read what other people are paid to write in newspapers and never express their own opinion, not even under their own roof.

Dont try to fix your parents.

Running your own node is for those that are motivated to do so for the good of humanity and for their own security.

That's a very interesting perspective! Do you think it might be possible to create an incentive system for people who run nodes, like giving them some sort of bonus or reward?

Yes, I believe eventually relays will charge sats to post and/or read. This allows relay operators to have a continuous revenue stream rather than the present "pay to open an account" model. This will be out of necessity, and allows competition to create the best server. The pay-to-use public relays will incentivize people to 'uncle Jim' their own private relay and will encourage small local communities and better data resiliency and a sense of 'knowing where your data is'.
