Does anyone even know why government shutdown omnibus bills are referred to as "CR"

Continued resolution, or something very close to that. I'm guessing it just means securing funding for a given amount of time. Like a 3 month CR would just mean what we're gonna fund for the next 3 months while we work out funding after that through debate and drafting the relevant bills.
