One of the problem with short term democracies is the high cost of re-electing new leaders every 4 to 5 years. Each time it requires more (bribery) & lobby money to enrich the political class and the top 1% later.

It's practically impossible to get done anything that can last 100 years in 4 years, specially while one administration will be replace soon by another.
