It's not widely consumed in India. But from what I've heard/read, it's possible to get food poisoning from eating seafood (not very common though but it happens sometimes).

I have never read any news story about anyone dying from it.

I certainly don't have an image of Indian people eating oysters.

I have an image of them eating shrimp, though.

Yes, shrimp, crab & prawns are eaten more commonly.

I thought shrimp curry was commonly eaten in India since it is available at the Indian curry restaurants I frequent😊.

I would love to experience Indian food in India someday.
