I don’t know who runs the Rust Foundation, but they shouldn’t.

Seems like they smoke crack for lunch over there

This is some crazy shit.

Bunch of clowns in the Rust Foundation.

It’s insane

They’ve had an insane code of conduct since very early on. Bunch of control freaks.

For someone that doesn’t know anything about their code of conduct, what did they include early on that was insane?

They were just one of the early projects to have a very overbearing code of conduct.

Basically, anyone who interacted with a community even remotely like Linus Torvalds did in his earlier years especially, was put on notice that they were the sort of person who wasn’t welcome.

Maybe Torvalds went too far, maybe not. But removing all highly opinionated brutal honesty from a project is not a good idea in my opinion.

Especially for a project like Rust. A language focused on safety, but the community feels more focused on emotional safety rather than basic information security. I wish there had been some grumpy highly opinionated cypherpunk/infosec sorts of people involved early on.

The Rust community has always focused of feelings over function in ways that feel detrimental for a systems language IMO.

Plus, I’ve always been skeptical of anyone who wants to restrict speech and micromanage the behavior of others. This latest Trademark brouhaha seems like a natural progression of their natural tendencies.

yeah i doubt most of this is enforceable. you can't prevent people carrying firearms based on copyright. lolz

They have gone mental.

It's a fair question.

I literally just started trying to learn Rust this month and now I'm not so sure it's a wise choice. Having a good community is key for any software, and this seems unhinged.

They seem to get a lot of backlash for it, maybe they won’t enforce it?

Let's hope

Complete and utter nonsense

this is absurd

Who cares about #rust, we’re going #CrabLang now, lmao
