New “building in public” blog: Social 2.0

What is Social 2.0?

If Social 1.0 was about billion+ user platforms that transformed into algorithmically driven dopamine monsters, Social 2.0 is an opportunity to build something new and more intentional.

It’s a second chance to build a social layer for the web.

The Social 2.0 era will be marked by the rise of many different niche and micro social networks, each with a core focus or specialty domain.

It will also likely be developed atop a global, open, identity protocol - the leading candidate which I believe is NOSTR - where users own their content, data, followers and identity.

Full intro piece below.

Subscribe on Substack for now.

I will bring it over to Nostr of course, when nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft gets Highlighter working properly 😉

There are more long-form content clients? 🤷‍♂️

None are good right now. The amount of times I’ve lost a draft is infuriating. They also don’t format properly. It’s not worth the effort.

When someone takes it seriously and builds something really good, I’ll try again.

It’s a long shot, but I’m hoping Ghost will see the light and abandon its pursuit of Activity Pub for #nostr 🙏🏻

Fair enough, it takes effort. Efforts that are worth the try. Nostr needs more efforts.

For sure.

If I wasn’t building Satlantis, I think I’d be building that. But we can only get to so much 🤷🏻‍♂️
