thank god as a russian i can’t continue my spotify/yt-music subscriptions. tired of being bullied by my friends for being in .001% of their listeners few years in a row 🫠
How about #Tidal, is it also blocked in Russia?

the problem is not with the services, we just can’t use visa/mastercard
which is extremely stupid.
like i can’t send my money to foreign company and supposed to use russian alternatives (like yandex music) and therefore making them richer – and i thought the idea of sanctions is for making it harder for the country they put on 🧐

The Cure was my first obsession, long time ago. One of the first albums I bought was the compilation “Standing on a Beach/Staring at the Sea”—which opens with a song based on one of my favourite books, Camus’s The Stranger
so cool! i also noticed how The Cure songs are so connected/influenced by existentialist books (love them as well) 💜
i was about 12 then my father shared some CDs with me, and besides whatever he was listening to in the 90s (like nirvana, rhcp, smashing pumpkins), he also had the cure’s latest album “4:13 Dream” and a compilation album “Galore” – that’s how i was introduced to their music!
ppl rarely mention “4:13 Dream” but this album was so influential on me – the haunting yet dreamy sound took me away from the horrifying reality to some imaginary world of mine
and later, a few years passed and i found out my grandfather also has some the cure cassette tapes – it was “The Top” and “Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me” – ngl i was blown away
but since i was so desperate to conform i didn’t share those tastes of mine with my friends and how shocked i was then in high school my friend introduced me to post-punk music and i met another side of The Cure which i also deeply love
I remember listening to The Top, it was their first “happier” album after the trilogy Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. I was thinking, whoa, where are the gloomy songs? Haha, still awesome, though.
I got into The Cure when I was 12 as well. Lots of their songs were playing on the radio at the time, like Close To Me and Inbetween Days. I through Robert Smith was the coolest human being alive 🙂
