Just spent about half hour to go through my follows and clear the dormant accounts. Quite a few out there. I’m talking 1 month + of inactivity.

Added up to a few dozen accounts. Many are quite prominent if you’re talking Twitter.

It’s a pity to see people join #Nostr and leave. Maybe it’s the learning curve, maybe it’s them not being used to gaining follower base from scratch.

Anyhow I’m confident that people will end up joining or returning to Nostr. It’s just a matter of time. Meanwhile we’ll continue building.

Keep it real, fellow nostriches 💜

Don’t rush him. I can’t keep up 😅

😂😂😂 I have it in the back burner but been too distracted lately 😅

How can i have a less buggy and slow experience? Am i doing something wrong? Maybe my data is up but it seems to heat my phone up and i got a battery health warning once. Im on amethyst btw love it just want more efficiency or optimization

How many relays are you running?

The stock 19 it gave me when i created my profile

Im assuming i should be running less? Maybe thats my main issue. I suppose that makes sense now that im better learning what a relay even is lol

Yes, that seems too many.

Have a look at this article I wrote on it.

https://thesamecat.io/blog/how-many-relays-should-i-have

Thanks! I appreciate everyones help 😎

What does all this mean? Where can i learn more? I cant seem to find anything in depth about relays. Ive looked on nostr.com and youtube 😅🤷‍♂️ i also deleted a few relays but they just came right back

After deleting them, click the “Post” button to save them.

I agree it is unintuitive. Every client also displays them differently, and Amethyst/Onyx gives you the greatest control at the cost of complexity.

The icons under each relay, from left to right: Follows (feed), DMs, Public Chats, Global, and Search.

They specify whether than relay will be used for those purposes.

The Up and Down arrows specify whether your posts will be uploaded to, or others posts will be downloaded from a relay. This is useful for instance, if you want your posts to be put on a relay for reach, but don’t want that relay’s content to appear in any of your feeds.

I hope this helps you. Trust me, I understand. I’ve been using Nostr for months, and I did not know what they all do. I just went to the GitHub and looked at the code for the relay list to write this up for you 🤣

You will figure it out quicker than you think though. Just keep asking questions. The community here will be happy to help you.

I appreciate it!

What about the last 2 icons?

Errors in communication with the relay and spam detected and filtered.

Looks like you’ve got lots of relays which bombard your phone with the same data (events). Check out my guide here that is aimed at optimizing the load: https://lnshort.it/nostr-relays

P.S. nostrich.land mentioned in the guide as one of the options seems to be down. I’ve gotta update the guide.

Interesting, thanks! Ima check out that vine relay, i keep seeing it. I dont really understand what relsys even are lol kind of but not completely. Think i need to watch some youtube 😅
