I second and third the two previous responses. Grow what you love to eat. I like to focus on staples. Nothing brings me more joy in the winter than having garlic, potatoes and onions at the ready. If you like them they are pretty easy to grow. Potatoes always are a great choice for the first bed in a new garden space.
