Your writing is oxymoron. In any society there are 1000 fools/1 smart person. People always liked sensation compared to science. People loved stories and conspiracy theories compared to hard evidence.

I don't see much connection to democracy though. In long run, societies where power is distributed perform better than those centralized around a few (inbreeding...). Democracy is just a tool to do it.

You’re describing what I already said, just with a softer tone. The difference is that I’m not romanticizing mediocrity. I’m pointing out its consequences.

I didn’t say democracy is bad by nature. It just stops working when ignorance becomes the majority.
