Can you elaborate? Is their node closing channels?

It appears so. You can closures on channels to multiple different node entities including bitfinex, Kraken, and Nicehash.

Very odd. Particularly without an explanation or prior notice.

Do you track their on-chain funds as well? Wonder if they migrate to a new node or something.

Not anything beyond closing and reopening channels on the same node. We're too busy keeping track of what is happening on lightning!

While the change was dramatic for the overall lightning network capacity, there is no need for concern.

In fact, this type of channel management is essential to maintain high payment reliability.

Notably, on-chain fees are low and all closes were mutual.
