Between the uncomfortable seats and the centralized, overly-regulated airports we must pass through, Air travel is miserable in every way right now. I hope the personal flying vehicle/flying car tech goes somewhere.

That said, it’s probably 90% a regulation problem and only 10% a tech problem. Even with affordable and capable personal/family flying vehicles, the regulations around such would probably go painfully beyond the necessary traffic control (timing, altitude, location, weather-based restrictions) and make that a pain as well.
