It’s a part of the human condition…

It’s hard and takes much time / energy to get enough sound information to info oneself. It’s very easy to listen to someone else who confidently presents an opinion that seems informed.

It’s also in human nature to group up. Team sports, politics and nationalism are all prime examples of the tendency to form in-groups vs out-groups. Many fall into this trap.
