One interesting thing from wars is observing how each nation acts offensively and defensively. You can see them hit certain targets or how the iron dome works and that makes one (me) wonder how you’d counter various offensive and defensive moves if you’re the other side. 🤔

Purely from strategic perspective.

It seems there’s a great advantage at striking first - hitting the missile areas, bases, comms. But let’s say you were not the one to do that first, what’s your line of defense there?

It’s always better to act first, it’s a rule in street fights.

If you are retaliating , you better have a plan put together before that attack, otherwise you might be screwed, like some infiltrated attack or something.

Yeah. You’d need an overwhelming response. Enough to overwhelm defenses no matter how strong. You’d probably need highly mobile systems, decoy sites etc. Nothing beats a good alliance though.

But then you are talking about a bigger power retaliating (“overwhelming” implies that), which makes you wonder why would someone attack if the other can retaliate overwhelmingly.

You scenario needs equal forces to be interesting.

No it doesn’t imply that. Just means you have arsenal at disposal, maybe strategically located and hidden.

Ok, so the best strategy is to be “preemptively” prepared. Almost “attack first” even if in your head. “I knew you’d do that”.

In a street fight it would be the equivalent of idk pulling a knife or a gun? It means you were kind of waiting for it, and that maybe *you* were first the other one wouldn’t have a chance

I don’t know why you keep comparing it to street fights. These conflicts are known for years, even decades and nations prepare. Doesn’t mean they attack first, but they war game things and account for scenarios.

Of course. That’s why “ you should attack hard in response” is a very limited explanation of how to game it out.

How about doing self-goals to legitimise going to war?

Not sure what you mean by that

iron dome is a boondoggle for high speed large yield ballistic missiles.

iran's main and booming weapons industry, which they are earning a mint from selling their drones to Russia, is drones. iron dome don't work on that. big drones, already are covered by standard SAMs but small drones require every possible strategic target to have a guard around it armed with shotguns because drones of the size of a small child can do way more damage and can be hidden, brought in by recon guys, launched, and they return to their hidey hole and key infrastructure, such as transmission antennas, power infrastructure and ammo caches can be attacked with them.

the persians are very crafty, historically well known as the inventors of the game of Chess and a great legacy of mathematical excellence. they are advantaged compared to israel because while israel has had a firehose of US money flooded at it, they built up boondoggles like the iron dome, and spent a lot of money on other standard 20th century standing army capabilities, whereas iran has less of a budget and have had to work on more unconventional warfare techniques, and funded enemies of israel like hizbollah and the houthis and the various others, including their neighbours like the former Assad regime of syria, and various groups in lebanon, jordan and so forth.

considering iran has china and russia as allies and trading partners, i think that israel is going to really regret trying to tread on iran.
