As far as I understand yes but then I still don't fully understand how the ISPs don't know, given that's the on ramp to the web.

I use the net loads but I haven't a clue how it actually works to be honest. I just hate being spied upon 24/7!

use mullvad... all your isp will see is that you are connected to a vpn, nothing more

I do, both the VPN and browser although it doesn’t play nice with my home network so one machine is on a Proton VPN.

i was looking in to this myself only a day or so ago, so then in that case my understanding is that the isp can't snoop anything. of course they can still see when you're active just from data utilisation alone but at least your privacy is preserved and you have a level of plausible deniability around utilisation of data – ie. "it wasn't me"...
