Agree, contacts are quite barebones. Could you please give an example what lists you mean?
I guess this is NIP-51? So for example when I can (multi)select them in a setting, I don't see everyone I follow I can use good friends, favorites, or so

Minibits contacts are currently stored only on device. There is another open github feature request to provide contacts backup that could be implemented via private kind of list as per NIP-51.
When this comes on the table I'll think how to get max out of it.
