Beautiful country. Camped along and rafted the Nolichucky River once upon a time. Remember them saying some parts were where they filmed The Last of The Mohicans. (One of my favorite movies)

True story, I was bartending my way through college on a sleepy Saturday afternoon In Boone, NC, when about 20-30 native Americans rolled into the bar to play pool and have some brews. Not only were they obviously young and fierce- looking but most had Mohawks. Being the only guy on duty, I was instantly busy slinging beer while they hit the tables. Intrigued, I had to ask what they were doing in a tiny town in the mountains, they said they were shooting a movie called “Last of the Mohicans” in the surrounding mountains. The night ended with a few brawls once the college girls started showing up a bit later…
