It's totally worth it. I'm at about 6 weeks now. I've lost weight, I have almost stopped getting cramps, I can do some exercise now, and starting to do more, my memory is improving, my mood is improving, not so much time in depression, my skin is clearing up, I was developing Wernicke-Korsakoff, and still have to take B vitamins to get my eyes to converge properly to read text.

I was drinking heavily on and off for about 26 years. I am pretty sure that if I didn't stop I would be dead within 5 years, most likely of a heart attack or an accident caused by the damage to my nervous system.

I think that if you can frame it in your mind that your enemies want you to drink, that can help you form part of the motivation to develop the discipline and steadfastness of refusing to ever drink again.

Not even one glass of wine is passing my lips, that's my determination and decision. And it actually can be very good, socially, when you show up at a business lunch, semi-casual, and your would-be future collaborators see that you are not drinking alcohol while others are. It makes you look better as a person to take a risk with, as well as all the other benefits.
