They don't realise that this makes their platform less valuable. They're cannibalising their network effect for short term revenue.

I had an imposter on there trying to scam people. I reported the scammer & they sent me an email telling me I needed to verify my account.

I was doing it for the benefit of other Twitter users, for their network. There is little value for me in that platform any more & so I have quietly withdrawn my attention.

A social network's value is in its user base.
