The darned indoor/outdoor thermometer fooled me again. It hasn't been 8 degrees for four days straight. The battery is dead and it has been between 3 and 11 degrees.
(makes grumpy old man face and shakes fist at technology)
An analog thermometer in the window and one inside the house will resolve this issue for the foreseeable future.
