> Dewitt said her son had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had been given medication, but she said he refused to take it.

> Dewitt said she grew increasingly concerned about the safety of her and her husband and took Brown to a mental health hospital. She said the hospital told her they didn't have enough room to admit Brown and because he wasn't threatening to hurt himself, they couldn't take him.

Much like in the UK… you don’t get any help unless you’re a very real suicide risk, which ironically drives more people to suicide attempts as they’re really struggling but can’t get help. Horrible.

I’ve known a couple of schizophrenics over the years. I hope they’re ok. As this proves, left to their own devices, the damage is so much worse and affects many people, obviously the poor girl in this attack but also many people who loved that person and were close to him that he was also violent to.

Ultimately it’s a financial decision made by some people very far removed from the situation. I don’t think many people in the money scene really have much understanding of it and only think ‘let’s build a wall and forget about it, it’s fine so long as the crazy person isn’t near me’.

I have family and friends that are schizophrenic. You sometimes need lots of help, to care for them.

US jails are full of the mentally ill because the mental hospitals are underfunded and understaffed.

Jails are full because of the 13th amendment
