Replying to nobody

Google Pixel phones are not available in Turkey, so I bought myself an iPhone. In ideal circumstances, I would buy one and install GrapheneOS. But if you had to choose between an iPhone and an android device where you have no choice over privacy, which one would you choose?

If I'm not mistaken, your criticism is on Apple platfoms, not directly on the efforts of Damus team. And I find that little unfair to them. The usability, and the approach that they chose is unmatched. We're having a simple, private and elegant client to interact with everyone on the network.

I think nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s is planning to launch an Android client after his struggles with the App Store. Please try it when they launch it. I'm curious to see whether your opinions remains.

Of course nothing against the developer. But going Apple-first may be the problem here. It doesn't fit the Nostr/Bitcoin spirit at all. Heard, they're even in the fiat money lending business now. Then we saw all the problems with their app store that wanted to take a big fee out of every zap.

Bitcoin/Lightning and Nostr devs should avoid these stores (Google Play Store also) and just deliver downloadable packages, just as Primal did in the beginning. Maybe this would trigger an effort to build an own app store for these types of "freedom tools".

Apple had no problem cancelling Macromedia Flash on their systems back then. Time they taste their own medicine.

I agree on software solutions. But you can’t judge people why they admire Apple hardware. If we really want to move from them, we have to create competitive devices with all of their products. One of my biggest reasons that I want to study on nanofabrication techniques. Sooner than later, we will need to build “freedom hardware”s
