Being on #nostr early means filling your feed with people who know #bitcoin and are able to think for themselves and recognise a good idea. That network will serve you well in the sea of misinformation and FUD that comes from every other news feed.

I’ve been here less than a day and I’ve already seen far more crypto spam than anything that resembles useful information.
Global feed is quite a mess, no doubt in that. Anybody can create an “account” and it takes time for relay operators to receive feedback on spammy accounts and block them. But as you build up your following base and surround yourself with quality accounts the experience becomes much better than in case of traditional social media as there are no algos that decide what you should or shouldn’t see.
Do paid relays fix this?
They do to a certain extent, yet discovering new spam accounts and quickly blocking them still remains an issue for relay operators. Filter relays do a good job as they let you only see the notes of who you follow + who they follow.
On the other hand many still connect to popular free relays such as damus and snort to make sure they don’t miss anything. And the problem comes back.
I guess we’re still early and there are huge developments going on in this direction: there’s Gossip by #[5]​ https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip which works on improving connectivity between nostriches, and #[6]​ has built wss://purplepag.es as a kinda interim solution (can’t find a link explaining the gist of it)
For now I shared my relay setup in this post I’ll add below. Plus I’m connected to a few more paid relays. But the best way I see now for the end user is to follow a couple hundred quality accounts and only read their notes and discussions around them. This way you can find more quality nostriches without being bombarded by spam..
