I have split emotions about this. on one side yes, it would be nice to have "real" headlines stream in. preferably unfiltered and factual. On the other side it sounds a bit like "recommended for you" or "trending" as we've known it on Twatter.

Perhaps a custom rss reader added to the UI with some good sources preset + custom feeds? Then an option to share, enable, disable feeds you're interested in or not. I think something like that could be a nice feature to have and for those who don't want to use it, add a disable button.
