Q: if I set up my own relay can I keep it private but use it to broadcast to the network?

The reason I ask is I seem to be having relay problems but they are somebody else’s computer right?

The one thing I really don’t want is to become a conduit for kiddy porn etc.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question I’m not a computer whizz.

Yes

I think that relays don't talk to each other. If you set up your own relay and posted to only that relay then people would check your relay to see your posts.

If it was "private" in the sense of "secret" nobody but you would see your posts.

You can be the only person allowed to post to it and have everyone else able to read it.

So AFAIK, relays use different inbox and outbox models. So it can be private to write, public to read (only you can post), the web of trust model (your followers can post), or public.

But content you see is perhaps coming from other relays. So running a relay to improve the content you see doesn't help unless it's a web of trust relay, and that doesn't help if you have accidently followed a scammed.

I could 180 degrees out of sync on this, this is my understanding.
